Did you know that 1 in 6 American adults have below basic literacy skills?

Often referred to as a hidden epidemic, nearly all of FPP's members and partners interact with clients who struggle with literacy, and may not be able to read, understand and complete what appear to us as simple-to-comprehend forms and materials.

This predicament is even more evident during tax time, in VITA/Free Tax Prep sites.  Imagine not reading English or Spanish well, and then being exposed to the language of US Tax on top of the challenge of basic literacy.  Opportunities for embarrassment and discomfort abound, when our role and goal is to serve others with dignity, respect and kindness.

Join experts Greg Smith and Heather Hepler Surrency of the Florida Literacy Coalition, Inc., to learn more about this important issue, and discuss strategies to successfully serve these individuals with awareness and sensitivity to their circumstances.

Consumers of all abilities require access to safe, affordable, and sustainable insured transaction and savings accounts.  Financial institution access improves their ability to safely save, build assets, and create wealth.  Access also protects them from theft and discriminatory practices.  Often most important, banking access can help provide a financial safety net against unforeseen circumstances.

This Summit will make the case for Financial Inclusion for persons with disabilities, and explore the steps communities are taking to enhance Inclusive Banking.  Discussion leaders will include those from the National Disability Institute (NDI) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).  Summit participants will engage with others from their community, and communities across Florida, to realize impactful, lasting change in the lives of all their Florida neighbors.
