Technology, automation and the gray tsunami are driving the need for flexibility in growing a dynamic and skilled workforce. This is a challenge to both industry and educational institutions. In this webinar, Elisia Norton, Business & Workforce Development Director with CareerSource Florida, will share how the apprenticeship model of collaboration between industry and education is a win-win for students, employers and educational institutions.
Apprenticeships are now expanding into nontraditional fields like IT and healthcare to close critical talent gaps. Susan Biszewski-Eber, M.A., Apprenticeship Coordinator with St. Petersburg College, will share how articulation of apprenticeships and college courses can lead to increases in enrollment at sponsoring institutions and stackable credentials for students. With a recent example of translating apprenticeships into the healthcare field, registrants can see how the model can work in almost any field.
Chancellor Henry Mack will share how education and business are working together to create some of the strongest pathways for economic mobility. There are now eight state colleges, seven district technical schools and one university that have become Florida Registered Apprenticeships Sponsors. Pre-apprenticeships are also growing in our high schools. These opportunities are providing students with the important hands-on experience employers value.
In this session you will learn:
- A historical overview of the U.S. Department of Labor State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant, the evolution of apprenticeship expansion in Florida, and Apprentice Florida
- What being a registered apprenticeship sponsor means and how higher education institutions can create education pathways that increase enrollment
- Examples of how apprenticeships are successfully helping to address shortages in nontraditional fields like healthcare and IT
- How a statewide audit is aligning postsecondary courses with marketplace jobs
