A Conversation Highlighting Financial Inclusion and the Racial Wealth Gap
Financial inclusion requires a commitment to financial opportunity as well as financial outcomes. Addressing barriers to Financial Capability is a critical step in creating a more inclusive financial system.
People of color have been historically and systemically excluded from full participation in the mainstream economy. A higher percentage of unbanked and an even higher percentage of underbanked individuals are people of color. Un- and underbanked households rely on alternative services that typically include high costs and exclude wealth-building benefits.
This session will explore the relationship between banking access and the racial wealth gap:
– How has insufficient access played a role in both creating and perpetuating the racial wealth gap?
– How can safe and affordable financial services and products play a role in closing the gap?
– How can Financial Capability practitioners from all sectors be more intentional about addressing racial wealth inequity?
